ADVOCATING FOR CHILDREN DURING DIVORCE AND CUSTODY DISPUTES
Divorce is a trying time for everyone involved, and for families with children, the parents’ decision to separate will make lasting impacts on the children’s lives. Our legal representation for children makes sure that kids involved in custody disputes have someone on their side during these cases.
Helping Kids Be Heard
Iowa Center for Children’s Justice is appointed by the court to represent children in divorce or custody matters.
Attorneys work one-on-one with children to listen, support, and advocate for child-focused resolutions. We don’t argue against parents or make the children pick sides. Instead, we work to understand the desires of the children so that we can communicate them during custody cases to help achieve a child-focused result.
Who We Represent
Our attorneys are appointed to represent a child in family law cases where:
- School aged children;
- A child resides in Polk or Dallas County;
- A divorce, custody or modification, child guardianship or contempt case is pending; and
- A case is high-conflict or another factor warrants a child having representation.
Fees
Our attorneys offer legal representation on a sliding fee scale based on parents’ income. Download fee information.

Download FormIt’s important to me that I have my own attorney. Without her, my voice would not be heard. Nobody would be standing up for what I want and how I feel. She’s been a voice of reason and has my best interests at heart.
